Issue

WARN level messages similar to the following may be observed in broker logs:

WARN  2024-12-05 12:55:15,033 [shard 2:au  ] archival - [fiber1183 kafka/session_events/50] -  ntp_archiver_service.cc:2857( http://ntp_archiver_service.cc:2857 )  - Failed to make reupload candidate: candidate creation error: no segments collected

Explanation

  1. This message was incorrectly labeled as a warning in older versions of Redpanda and should be marked as INFO
  2. The issue has been addressed in later versions, where the message level has been changed.
  3. This message can typically be ignored if no other issues are observed.

Resolution

The message level has been corrected in v24.3.1 with backports to v24.1.18 & v24.2.6. Please refer to the following pull request for additional details: Update log level for failed reupload candidate
